Upgrades can give you boost in certain statistics. Each upgrade increases the level of the item level upgrade by +3. A random substat is also added to each upgrade.

The upgraded gear is usually more useful, unless the item has a low requirement by nature (like FB sorc shields) or has a large variance in stats (like eth Titan weapons). Upgrades are not as useful for those with lower requirements because of the requirement to roll an exact version.

However, the item used to upgrade will remain in use for a long time and will not be able to be used again. Upgrades can be used to create enchantments.

You can upgrade your gear anytime by visiting the upgrader in any major city. It is recommended that you visit the upgrader every few weeks to keep your equipment up to date.

Upgrades will cost more depending on the level of the item upgrader mod, but they will always be cheaper than purchasing new gear. Upgrades such as upgrading a Benthic chest up to ilvl385 will cost you 20 recycle points. A similar item will cost you 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used to purchase weapons, armor, tools and accessory upgrades. They can be purchased from item upgraders NPCs for a variety of currencies. They can also find them in random treasure lists. Once an upgrade has been purchased it can be used on any weapon, tool, or armor using an button, which will show a preview of the item at the next upgrade level in the event that the player has enough materials.

Upgrade costs differ based on the slot for the item and the current level of the item. For instance weapons are more expensive than gloves, bracers or bracers. Each upgrade costs 15 Flightstones plus a set number of crests. Some upgrades offer a discount on the Flightstones. After an item upgrader kit has been upgraded to a certain amount it can be re-downgraded and sold to the upgrader at a lower cost.

This change is intended to allow players to get their equipment to the highest ilvl possible on all their characters, instead of relying only on seasonal loot.

Another significant change is that crests have one usage therefore it's essential to use them wisely. It is best to use your Whelpling-rank crests on the top-quality equipment you can locate and save Drake and Wyrm Crests for the next set of upgrades. This is particularly true for items such as rings and trinkets that occupy multiple slots. The discount for the entire account is only applicable when all slots on the character are filled with top-quality gear.
