They do have some flaws however, which hinder them from being our first option. One of the Q5's shortcomings is that its navigation system doesn't include AI-powered obstacle avoidance. It's thus susceptible to getting stuck on socks and shoes and couldn't navigate rooms with lots of people well in our tests. It also doesn't have a camera that would let it see the corners of an area.

It's still a good value for those whose home or office has a lot of unfinished floors and you're looking to save some money. Plus, it's very quiet and can work when you're at work or going to school. It lacks the edge-to-edge bare floor vacuuming offered by the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective in mopping, using disposable wet wipes, which don't stick on for long and don't handle dried-on debris. The Q5 has self-emptying docks, however. If you're required to mop, the mopping pad can be changed for one that is wet in just a few minutes.

2. iRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive vacuuming and mopping capabilities into an elegant, compact package. Its intelligent cleaning maps and fluid navigation make it simple to clean and effective in dealing with larger particles, like pet hair. It also features a powerful suction and a self-emptying bin. It even cleans the floor after it vacuums it, something hasn't been seen in other robot vacuum/mop combos.

3. Roomba X40 from iRobot

The robot vacuum and mop combination has a sleek, circular design that appears much like a Roomba model than the boxy models of the competition. It's one of our most appealing looking robot vacuums. The latest model from iRobot happens to be its smartest and has advanced features like Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology as well as future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can wash its own mop pads).

It's the only robotic mop or vacuum to score an exemplary 10/10 in our testing, thanks to a combination of high-tech sensors that include a camera, structured light system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could fill and empty its basestation on its own. It also boasted an industry-leading suction of 12,000Pa as well as self-cleaning mop mops.

Similar to Ecovacs range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that can take care of both mopping and vacuuming. It comes with a multi-function dock that automatically empties the vacuum's dust bin, fills its water tank and washes and dry the mop pads.

The smart robot vacuum with mop utilizes LIDAR and structured lighting to map out floor plans and detect obstacles. It navigates more intelligently than its premium competitors. It also has a camera mounted on the front for real-time hazard detection however, it wasn't 100% foolproof during our tests and was occasionally confused by power cords or other obstructions.

Its vacuum has a high suction capacity of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to complete the task. It also comes with "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates how hard the vacuum works and alters the frequency of cleaning for different areas of the home according to the degree of dirt they tend to be.

For bigger homes, it's worth opting for one with zone or spot cleaning modes that let you tell the robot vacuum with mop to clean one particular area of your home by using the app or voice controls. You can use it to create cleaning schedules, set up an area for cleaning or to prioritise your dirtiest rooms to improve performance.
