Charles the Humble Technician teaches how to replace the G28 Engine Speed Sensor. The sensor is situated at the top of the transmission, above the flywheel ring gear. It transmits a signal the ECU via a grey wire (T55/49) and then to the tachometer within the instrument cluster.

1. Engine Speed Sensor

The grey wire is located on the edge of transmission, directly above the flywheel ring. The sensor transmits signals through the grey wire to pin T55/49. The ECU utilizes this information to regulate boost and fuel. It also sends a signal to the G5 tachometer inside the instrument cluster.

The sensor is used to link with the G40 Camshaft position Sensor. The ecu must be aware of when the crankshaft has reached TDC and also the location of the camshaft to trigger the spark and injectors.

If this sensor fails when it fails, the ECU will display a P00160 error code. This indicates that the Crank Shaft is out of line with the Intake Camshaft. 2. Injectors

Yesterday, when i was accelerating to the fullest speed from highway paytoll, I experienced an abrupt drop in power like the engine is running out of gas or the injectors are not firing anymore. This morning i pull out the spark plugs. Three were soaked with gazoline and the fourth one was dry. I put tissue over each injector hole, and when i start the engine with no sparks, the 3 with gazoline jump right out. The fourth one remains shut. I checked the ground connection of ECU pins 14,30, and 48/55. I got 0ohm. Therefore, i think the issue is in another place.

I also tried to reset the PID with no success. The car will start when the G28 is disconnected, but it runs fine with the G28 plugged in. However the intermittent misfire issue continues to occur at higher RPM. The coolant sensor (G62), even when unplugged, still shows temperatures of -49c. I also noticed that the oil gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bar while the actual pressure is 0.

I don't know what to do. I feel like i've pretty much eliminated everything else. I'm afraid i may have missed something. Let me know if you have any ideas! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump of the g28 receives a signal from the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter functions similarly to the G4 sender and both work on the 80,100,200, UrS, and RS2 vehicles. It is easy to find an extra in a wrecking shop or parts store. It is simple to test them to do - just put your DMM in resistance mode and measure the resistance between pins 1 (with the bump on the connector end up) and 2 (2nd from the left on the black end of the connector). 4. ECU
