Samsung's latest counter-depth French-door refrigerator called the RF23M8090SG, is priced at $4200. It's a good-looking model that boasts useful features like an autofill water pitcher and a temperature-adjustable "FlexZone" drawer. It also performed well during our cooling test, however we're not a fan of the gimmicky handles or flimsy crisper bins.

One thing that makes the RF23M8090SG apart is its Bespoke line which lets you personalize your fridge with removable colored panels that can be swapped out whenever you get tired of the current ones. There are 11 colors to choose from, ranging from pastels to more bright colors. There are also four metallic finishes. Some of the panels can be customized with photos or text making the fridge a more personal touch point that can match your tie-dye Crocs, Rick Owens dress or Andy Warhol banana neon sign.

The LED lighting can be altered to a different color, which is a great feature. The interior of the refrigerator is finished in a way which reduces smudges, and makes cleaning easier. The only downsides of the RF23M8090SG are its slightly cramped beverage center as well as a bit of a learning curve in opening the door-indoor feature that houses a water pitcher as well as a dispenser. You need to look for a lever on the underside of the door halfway across, and once you do you will be able to open an additional door inside the fridge, which houses the docking station for pitchers along with the water dispenser as well as two shelves for drinks.

However, it also has a few nagging issues. Our test data shows that the FGHB2866PF warms up quite some in the freezer, and could get uncomfortable warm in the fridge's innermost shelves. Our heat maps show how temperature changes minute by minute. The orange area on the upper right, which represents the butter bin, has been particularly warm throughout the time we tested. It may not appear to be a problem initially, Frydge but the fridge spends most of the time above 32 degrees.

It's also worth mentioning that the FGHB2866PF isn't an Energy Star-certified model, which may be a consideration for certain buyers. The main issue is that the fridge isn't the best. It's not equipped with the latest features and durable construction which makes it difficult to recommend it over more expensive alternatives at this price.

In many ways, the Frigidaire feels like the stainless-steel version of a fridge you might see in your local appliance store. It's a good choice with a brushed-finish that looks nice and is resistant against scratches. However, it doesn't offer much to differentiate itself from competitors which are more feature-rich and more affordable.

If you're looking for a counter-depth french-door fridge but don't want to spend a lot of money, the FGHC2331PF might be worth considering. It's got enough storage to meet the needs of the majority of families and does an excellent job of keeping food fresh. Even if it's not an energy-efficient model, it won't even come close to costing more than our top-rated models do.
