maxresdefault.jpgLike many of the expansions that preceded it, much of the new content encourages grinding. Thankfully, the new weapons and the Masterworks update at least provide players with a decent reward for their hard work. As is often the case, busywork feels a lot less like busywork when there's a meaningful end goal to motivate play

A great example of this can be seen in the differences between The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. On a technical level, Skyrim is clearly superior. It looks so much better than Morrowind that it’s almost silly to compare the two, and its combat doesn’t suffer from pure RNG like Morrowind’s does. Skyrim’s point-to-point fast travel opens up new options for combat and exploration; annoying mechanics like stat drain spells have been removed entirely and character building is practically automatic. All one has to do is play the game. These are all things that make Skyrim much more convenient than Morrowind, but they don’t necessarily make it better.

Forsaken ensured that Activision bowed out with a bang. The expansion provides many of the things that players had been hoping for and more than makes up for the mediocre offerings of the two expansions that came before it. It may have taken a year to achieve, but Destiny 2 finally felt like a worthy successor to the original g

The story content was engaging and introduced some interesting ideas and characters, and the plethora of quest lines provided players with more than enough to keep them busy. Arriving two years after the game's release, though, many players had started to grow a little tired of the grind and were ready to move on to something new. Thankfully, with Destiny 2 looming large on the horizon, they wouldn't have to wait too much lon

Convenience can be a good thing in many situations. It gives people more free time in their daily lives and, when it’s thoughtfully implemented, can make games feel good to play. Just like in real life though, too much convenience has its downsides. In some games it can rob players of chances to apply themselves and craft more interesting adventures. In others, too much convenience can quickly turn amazing moments into standard, perhaps even dull experiences. Too little convenience can make a game unenjoyable too though, so both gamers and developers alike should be careful of letting things go too far in either direction.

It must be said that classic Halo isn’t necessarily better than a game like Destiny 2. It had matchmaking issues and a progression system that was at least a little, if not very, broken. It also offered players little reason to play outside of simply enjoying multiplayer. It also suffered from feeling "same-y" after a while. Players didn’t have their own personal armories and, until Halo: Reach hit the scene, everyone always had the same basic abilities. Compared to Destiny 2, Halo offered players little in the way trials of osiris personal options. If one was to find an edge, they had to either do it through power-ups, clever team tactics or just pure skill.

A build for Hunters who want to control the battlefield, or their section of it, by slowing and freezing enemies they – or their fireteam – can then shatter, this melee-focused build gives Guardians near-limitless Withering Blades to toss at enemies. The constant ability to slow and freeze targets makes the lives of the Hunter and their allies much eas

While Destiny 2 allows players to create their very own Guardian from top to bottom, the celebrated DC Universe Online has players creating their very own superhero or supervillain in the DC Comics Universe. This game is not a shooter, but an action-oriented MMO with fast-paced combat and RPG character development eleme

Supercharged and Charged Up together make the maximum amount of CWL stacks five instead of two. At five stacks of CWL, grenades can restore up to 50% of super energy (each stack provides 10%). CWL stacks are built by picking up orbs of power thanks to the Taking Charge mod and by achieving precision kills with hand cannons, bows, or scout rifles due to the Precision Charge

Allowing players to step into the iconic Star Wars franchise, Star Wars: The Old Republic is an MMORPG with both subscription-based and free-to-play options, and an emphasis on character customization. Players can be characters of several different classes and alien species, while also deciding to belong to the Galactic Republic or Sith Empire facti

Some of that can happen in Skyrim too, but players have so many more options in that game. Ever-present fast travel makes retreat a much more attractive option. Easily-trained skills mean always having a strong backup option, with little need for either planning or improvisation. The same goes for having enemies that rely almost exclusively on dealing pure damage rather than attacking through debuffs and drains. It’s not necessarily easier, especially on higher difficulties, but it's more convenient for the player. It’s not 100% bad, but it does come at the cost of a potentially more rewarding and memorable adventure.
